The step response curve models the closed-loop transfer function between pilot stick commands and the measured gyro response. A balanced response reaches 1.0 in 35–45ms on a 5-inch quad with approximately 5%–8% overshoot and minimal ringing (damping factor around 0.72). Excessive overshoot indicates an underdamped axis requiring increased D-gain or reduced Feedforward. Sluggish rise times signify an overdamped response where P-gain or Master Multiplier can be safely increased.
Pilot stick commands and intentional motion. Energy here represents flight control authority.
Carbon fiber flex or loose hardware. Targeted by Betaflight Dynamic Notch filters.
High-frequency motor noise amplified by D-term. Suppressed with Bidirectional DShot RPM filtering.
Adjust PID gains to preview the simulated response curve accounting for rotational inertia and motor spool delay.
Paste configuration from Betaflight Configurator CLI to automatically load current PID and filter settings.
